Gary Vaynerchuk had declared April 3rd, 2008 to be "Good People Day," so we're going to talk about some good people.
First we can start with Gary. Forget Wine Library TV - although I watch it from time to time and it is somewhat tirelessly entertaining and non-pretentious as many wine blogs or wine reviewers tend to be... It's in his personal blog that one finds true meaning, motivation, understanding of business, and a call to action to really become the person you can be.
But there are many other people in my life I'd like to point out as good.
First is my family. First and foremost is my mother - an incredible angel of a woman who has dealt with a lot in her life and is, at just shy of 57 years of age, starting over and doing incredibly well at it. There is proof out there that restarting your life at any age and any place is possible. Never think you're too old, never think it's too late.
My brother and sister are blessings. No sibling relationship is perfect, but...
My mother and father, if they taught us nothing else in life, is that family is first, all the time. I have dropped my entire life at times for family, sometimes to the amazement of others. So have everyone else in my family. There isn't much I wouldn't do for them. I don't understand when people are amazed at what our family does for each other - to be honest, I feel bad for them. To miss out on family - and I know many do - is a sad thing. To anyone without close ties to their family, I hope you find strength in an "extended" family of friends who can give you the same love.
Finally in family I should mention the newest edition - my wife Jen. Such an amazing woman does not come around often. It took me some absolutely horrible dating and a little love from a close friend to meet Jen, and thank God I did. She takes care of me, and I use her, I know - she's a personal secretary as well as my Sven (we've gone so far as to nickname her "Sveniffer" at times) but I hope she realizes how much I appreciate what she does as I sit here chasing a dream of building my own media empire, at the current cost of a good job with steady income. She's an amazing artist, an absolutely creative mind who is of course her own worst critic. Jen is good people - and you can ask anyone who's met her, and they'll tell you the same thing. I only hope that I show her the love and thanks she deserves every day.
Next would of course be my friends - not my aquaintences, of which there are many, but my tried-and-true, life-long friends. I am one of those people that has a lot of them. Loyalty is the sign of a true friend, and I'm lucky to have so many - thank you Ed, Lauren, Mike, Megan, Kristen, Steve, Derrick, Mike, and Zack.
(I should also take the time to mention a few of my brothers friends who have been around as long as I can remember and are like brothers once removed. Much love to them, always.)
Moving on - helllllooooooo Indy Hall crew! Yeah, I have mentioned one or two of these guys in almost every post here, but since it's "Good People Day" I have to loop back around one more time. Alex, Bart, and Geoff - thank you for starting Indy Hall. It's changed my life incredibly. Special love to Alex for all he's done to help me get my social capital up. To the guys I work with almost every day - Dave, Jason, Chris, Roz, Joe, Alexis, Val - all simply amazing, beautiful, real people. This community tickles me simply because of how honest and real everyone is. I don't ever have to feel like I'm being lied to, misled, or otherwise fucked with. These guys and gals rock. If I missed your name, I love you anyway. Toss in some love for the guys at P'unk Ave who are awesome too.
Finally, a little love for Johnny Bilotta, another Indy Hall find, without whom there would be no "Two Guys On Beer." How much would that suck??
I could go on and on. My Aunt Mickey and Uncle Steve, and Megan and Greg who are as close as non-blood relatives can be (and closer than many blood relatives). All of the close friends of my parents who have always treated me with love. To Jen's family, many of whom have taken me in and shown me nothing but love.
The point is, when you stop - really stop - and think about how awesome and amazing the people are who surround you, you'll begin to understand how blessed you are. If I were to stumble, there would be 50 hands there to catch us, and not a one with a hint of being owed something in return. Some of those hands are people I have known less than a year. Can you believe that?
To everyone in my life, I love you, I thank you, and I will continue to try to be worthy of your love and support.
Happy "GOOD PEOPLE DAY" everyone!!
